  • Pray for the ladybirds to come soon and eat up the aphis, otherwise your rose is dead.

Fascinating!! I was so intrigued that I just spent an enjoyable half-hour at Wikipedia reading about the greenfly. Thanks a ton for lifting a portion of my veil of ignorance!

Okay, I had to do a bit of research to fully understand this one, and now that I do, I see your wonderful twist of an ending here. When I first read this, I thought the poor rose would be a victim to the greenfly and the ladybirds. I didn’t know what a greenfly was, so I looked it up and discovered it was an aphid. Around here ladybirds are called ladybugs, so once I made that connection in the third line, I remembered that ladybugs eat aphids. And I had my “aha! There’s Rachael’s twist!” moment. 🙂 And now you know how my poor muddled mind works. This is excellent, Rachael. And I’m happy you have plenty of ladybirds to protect that poor rosebush.

A million giggles! There’s nothing wrong with your mind, and it’s certainly not muddled, dear friend! Next time I’ll consider our linguistic differences 🙂

As a gardener, I absolutely love this haiku 🙂 Thank you!
