  • S.A.D. I have seen the effects of this on others (including our dog). I can only imagine what it might be like living in the far north. Nicely written, Rachael.

I’m so sorry for your dog, Chris 😦
It’s interesting you saw the haiku as an expression of this painful condition. It’s a strange thing. Many writers suffer from depression, but they also say their most productive time is when the weather and lack of sunlight turns them inwards to those contemplative places where the creative ideas form. I suspect that depression and creativity are on the same axis…

Many cuddles to your doggo x

      • Thank, Rachael. I agree regarding the darkness/creativity correlation. I think that it takes a long time to be able to see depression as an ally, and yes, it is never a truly welcomed guest, but it is still an important part of who we are creatively. Take care.

  • This beautifully captures that sense of travelling inward in the dark part of the year that isn’t without trepidation but hopefully bears fruit.

Such a link between being creative and feeling empty. I sometimes think one is an attempt to fill the other, if that makes sense x
